#Recipes - Enjoy Special Holiday Drinks #ShopaholicSanta

I'm not much of a drinker but for those of you that are I found quite a few scrumptious sounding Holiday and Christmas themed drinks I'm sure you'll enjoy! 

What you'll need:
  • 4 cups of milk
  • 5 whole cloves
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 12 egg yolks
  • 1 1/2 cups sugar
  • 2 1/2 cups light rum
  • 4 cups light cream
  • 2 more teaspoons of vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon of nutmeg
  1. Combine milk, cloves, 1/2 teaspoon of vanilla extract and cinnamon in a saucepan.  Heat over the lowest setting for 5 minutes.  Slowly bring milk mixture to a boil.
  2. In a large bowl, combine egg yolks & sugar.  Whisk together until fluffy.  Whisk hot milk mixture slowly into the eggs and pour mixture into saucepan.  Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly for 3 minutes, or until thick.  Do not allow mixture to boil.  Strain to remove cloves and let cool for about an hour.
  3. Stir in rum, cream, 2 teaspoons of vanilla and nutmeg.  Refrigerate over night before serving.
Candy Cane
What you'll need:
  • 3/4 oz SKYY Berry Vodka
  • 3/4 oz. Peppermint Schnapps
  • 3/4 oz. White Creme de Cacao
  • 1/4 oz. Grenadine
  • Half and Half
  • Soda Water
  1. Pour the vodka, Peppermint Schnapps, white Creme de Cacao, and grenadine into a cocktail shaker with ice and shake well.
  2. Pour into a cocktail glass rimmed with crushed peppermint candies.
  3. Fill with half and half
  4. Top with a splash of soda water
** You can rim the glass with crushed peppermint candy canes or other peppermint candies by using Schnapps or Creme de Cacao to wet the rim.

The Grinch

What you'll need:
  • 2 oz Midori
  • 1/2 oz lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon simple syrup*
  • 1 maraschino cherry for garnish 
  1. Pour ingredients into a cocktail shaker with ice
  2. Shake well
  3. Strain into a chilled cocktail glass
* Simple Syrup is just equal parts sugar and water that is heated until the sugar dissolves. (Your yield will be the same amount of water you use.)

 Hot Buttered Rum
What you'll need:

  • 1 stick unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 cups light brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon grated nutmeg
  • Pinch of ground cloves
  • Pinch of salt
  • 1 Bottle of dark rum
  • Boiling Water

  1. In a bowl, cream together the butter, sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves and salt.  Refrigerate until firm.
  2. Spoon about two tablespoons of the mixture into 12 small mugs.
  3. Pour about 3 ounces of rum into each mug, filling it about halfway.  Top with boiling water (to fill remaining half)
  4. Stir well and serve immediately

Not an alcohol drinker?  Don't worry neither am I!  Here are some non-alcoholic drinks the entire family can enjoy!

Sleigh Driver
What you'll need:

  • 1 cup water
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 two inch piece of fresh ginger, peeled & sliced
  • 3 pears, chopped into bite sized pieces, divided
  • 2 quarts of apple cider
  • 1 lemon, halved and sliced
  • 1 tablespoon ground allspice
  • 1 cup fresh cranberries
  • 2 tablespoons vanilla extract
  1. Combine water, sugar, ginger, and 1 pear in a large saucepan.  Bring to a boil over medium-heat, stirring occasionally.  Strain out the solids and return the mixture to the pan.
  2. Add the remaining pears, cider, lemon and allspice and heat over medium-heat stirring often for 15 minutes.
  3. Add cranberries and vanilla and reduce the heat to medium-low (the liquid should be simmering, not boiling)  Let it simmer for 10 minutes then serve in heat-safe mugs.

Pear Tree
What you'll need:

  • 1 cup of ice
  • 1/3 cup pear juice
  • 2 tablespoons of Lemon-Lime juice
  • 2 tablespoons simple syrup
  • 4 fresh mint leaves plus 1 mint sprig for garnish

  1. Put all ingredients except the mint sprig into a cocktail shaker and shake until well blended. (about 10 seconds)
  2. Pour with ice into a tumbler and garnish with mint sprig.

Coconut Eggnog
What you'll need:

  • 1 pint half-and-half
  • 4 cinnamon sticks (3 1/2 inches long)
  • 1 teaspoon white cloves
  • 5 large egg yolks
  • 1 can (14 oz) sweetened condensed milk
  • 1 can (14 oz.) coconut milk
  • Ground Cinnamon
  •  1 1/4 cup light or dark rum (optional)

  1. Heat half-and-half, cinnamon sticks and cloves in a saucepan, stirring until boiling.  Remove from heat and let it stand for 1 hour.  Strain and return to pan.
  2. Whisk egg yolks and sweetened condensed milk into half-and-half.  Cook, stirring constantly over medium-heat until mixture reaches 160 degrees F. (Don't Boil)  Stir in coconut milk.  Let cool then chill for at least 3 hours or up to 3 days.
  3. When ready to serve buzz half of your mixture in a blender until frothy.  Pour in a bowl and stir in rum if you'd like.  Ladle into glasses and sprinkle ground cinnamon.
