For the past year I have been trying to keep my two passions separate as best as I can. Blogging, of course, is one of those passions but the other lesser known passion of mine is Substance Abuse. No it's not what you think! I am an advocate for Opiate Addiction and Substance Abuse victims in my community and around the world.
The state of Florida has the highest rate of opiate addiction in the county. So it should be no surprise that my community is full of them. While Florida has the highest rate in the country, the politicians and especially the doctors in this area seem to abandon those in this position. There needs to be a law protecting patients from doctors that get them addicted to medications like Oxycodone. If my doctor put me on an opiate painkiller not only should I be warned ahead of time but that doctor should be responsible for helping me to get off. Instead addicts are left on their own, sometimes pointed in the direction of rehab clinics that charge $8k for 8 days worth of help.
Well I refuse to let these people stay on the sidelines anymore! In the Tampa Bay area there are only a few accessible clinics that provide medicated assistance with either Methadone or Suboxone. Unlike other states, most of the time these clinics are not funded by the state so they are forced to turn some away, they have at least a one week wait to get in and they end up having to charge more for the medications that so many need to continue to live a sober, drug-free life.
This is why, for my birthday on November 6th, all I am asking for is a simple donation to a local rehab clinic called Operation Par. Operation Par provides several different services to fit your preferences including medically assisted rehab, Inpatient and Outpatient services, counseling, and much more. Any amount, even a couple dollars, will help tremendously. Here is the link --- http://wishes.causes.com/wishes/396837
Those that donate $5 or more will be put into a drawing for a prize pack I will put together. Please help me help those desperate to live a normal, carefree life again. If not for the addicts, please consider donating for their children. Give them a change to live a healthy life and grow up with sober parents.
For more information on Operation Par please visit their website. You'll find useful resources and much more. Thank you in advance and I hope all of you have a fabulous weekend! xoxoxox
