Summer Makeup Tips and Tricks - #savvyliving

Every season has it own trends - clothing, hair and even makeup, yet I constantly see women everyday wearing makeup that is out of season!  Not every woman can wear the same colors as her peers, everyone is unique so their makeup choices and colors should be unique as well.  Today I'm going to share with you a few of the hottest summer 2011 makeup trends and what skin tones they would look best on, to help you look smokin' this season!

Protection is important!
It's important all year long to keep yourself protected from UVA and UVB rays by wearing a SPF 15 or higher sunscreen.  Sun damage can cause you to show signs of early aging such as wrinkles, sun spots and fine lines.  According to "Go Sun Smart by the Weather Channel", up to 80% of skin aging is caused by the sun.  More importantly, just one or more blistering sunburn when you are a child almost doubles your risk of developing Melanoma later on in life!  Remember that even on a cloudy day, you're being exposed to UVA and UVB rays, so make sure you apply a SPF moisturizer to a clean face each morning.  Give it about 10 minutes to absorb and you're ready to put on your makeup!
Your skin isn't the only part of you that needs protecting!  Don't forget to grab a chic floppy hat and sunglasses to protect your eyes from sun damage.  It also doesn't hurt to look fabulous while protecting your eyes at the same time!  Even your hair needs protecting against UVA and UVB rays that can dry it out.

Less is more!
Does your foundation and powder feel heavier on your skin during the hot summer months? Does it cake up on those sticky, humid days?  A fresher, lighter alternative is to use a tinted moisturizer. (*Hint: Apply with a damp sponge for a simple way to get an even look!)  If that's not enough coverage for you, you can apply a bit of powder concealer on blemishes, areas of redness, and under your eyes.
This applies to your lipsticks too!  Instead of caking on a bunch of lip liner and lipstick, try using lip gloss or even go bare!  For great protection and color try using an SPF tinted lip balm, they give you a hint of color and are light enough to wear on even the steamiest days!

It's safer to fake it!
The next time you want to go to a tanning salon or head out to soak up some sun, try using a bronzer or self tanner instead!  Contrary to popular belief, a sun tan is not healthy, in fact it's a sign that damage has been done to your skin.  Also, a tan does not protect you from being burned in the future!  It is the equivalent to a mere SPF 4!  Instead of doing all of that damage to your skin, try a bronzing powder for your face.  If you're worried about it looking orange and fake, there are plenty of brands out now with bronzers that are specifically created to suit your skin tone. You can also bronze your legs with Bronzing Oils that you can use in the shower!  It's a quick and beautiful way to look sun kissed this season!
Sunless Tanners are always a great alternative to tanning beds and laying out to tan.  There is a wide variety of sunless tanning products to fit any skin tone and budget and now some even come with handles to prevent getting the tanning solution all over your hands!

The Summer of Color - Don't be shy!
This summer is all about vibrant colors, whether it's on your nails or purse, don't be shy!  If it's a cloudy or rainy day, paint your nails a bright sunny yellow or orange to brighten your day!  Bright colors apply to eye shadows and eye liners too!  Bright, lively colors make you look awake, brighten your face and give you a more youthful appearance.  If you're more of a neutral color girl - experiment with just one area of your face!  A great place to start is the apples of your cheeks with a sheer pink or rose color.
Bright and dark are two different things - stay away from dark colors during the summer.  Deep wine or maroon will make you look pale.

Waterproof
Summer can be a very wet time of year, depending on where you live and what you've got planned.  If you're looking to avoid having raccoon eyes from running mascara, try waterproof!  If you haven't had the best luck with waterproof mascara in the past, right now is the perfect time to give it another chance!  The waterproof mascara of today is nothing like it used to be!  Today's formulas are much better and they actually last!  If you have a favorite mascara already but it's not waterproof, just apply your favorite first and a bit of waterproof on the tips of your lashes to boost it's longevity.
Mascara isn't the only waterproof makeup you can find!  You can find eyeshadow, lipsticks, even foundations in waterproof formulas.  So for a long lasting look, that lasts all day through the sweat, rain or whatever life splashes at you!

Keep those toes in tip top shape!
If you head to the beach or a public pool make sure you wear flip flops or sandals on your feet!  You never know if someone around you has a foot fungus like Athlete's foot that can easily be spread to others very easily and quickly.  So protect your feet and don't go into a shower or bathroom without your shoes on.

Remember, everyone is different so just because one color looks great on your friend doesn't mean it's going to look the same on you!  Experiment and find what suits you, you never know what you'll find!
