Sea-Band Review and Giveaway

I hate feeling nauseous, it's one of the worst feelings in the world!  Unfortunately for me, I am afflicted with horrible migraines that cause me to become very nauseous at times.  When I was pregnant with Ashton I went through 7 months of hyperemesis gravidarum which is extreme morning sickness.  It got so bad I wasn't even able to keep down water and I was in the hospital hooked up to IVs practically the entire time.  I've tried anti-nausea prescription medications and they just made me feel exhausted all the time and unable to function in my day to day life. On top of that, it was hard to swallow a pill when I was as nauseous as I was!  I had everyone I knew giving me their Mother or Grandmother's old remedy's to try out.  Pickle Juice, Ginger, Ginger-Ale, Crackers, you name it I've probably tried it and to no avail!  So needless to say, I'm always on the lookout for something to help me out during those awful nausea spells.  That's why I was ecstatic to find out that Sea-Band was seeking bloggers to review their products and I signed up right away!

What is Sea-Band?
According to their press release, "Did you know 28 million Americans suffer from migraines?  Are you one of them or do you know someone who does?  Migraines can be unbearable and on top of the excruciating pain you're experiencing you also have to deal with the nausea. (8 out of 10 people that are diagnosed with migraines also report nausea.)"  I know there have been times I've thrown up so hard I've seen stars! That's where Sea-Band Drug-Free Nausea Bands can help.  "A study conducted at the Berolina Clinik (which specializes in migraine and headache therapy) in Loehne, Germany showed that 85% of chronic migraine sufferers that participated by wearing Sea-Band (acupressure wrist bands better known for helping people with motion/travel sickness and morning sickness) during a migraine attack reported positive results:"

  • 41 patients participated in the test, patients had, on average, suffered from migraines, on average, for more than 26 years.
  • All participants had forgone the use of anti-emetics (anti-nausea drugs) for the purpose of this study.
  • 83% of participants indicated a perceptible reduction in nausea associated with migraines,  Sea Band.
  • 44% indicated a significant reduction overall (collective) migraine symptoms.
  • Relief was reported after an average of 28 minutes of wearing the Sea-Bands.
  • Nearly all participants (98%) said they would use Sea-Band again.
"Approved by the FDA, Sea-Band works by exerting constant, gentle pressure on a point on the inner wrist called the Pericardium 6 (P6) acupressure point.  It brings effective relief and can be used before or after the onset of nausea.  Sea Band has been traditionally used for morning sickness, motion sickness, chemotherapy, and post surgery.  It's drug-free, all natural and latex free which means it doesn't cause side effects often associated with anti-nausea medications such as drowsiness, disorientation, dry mouth and possible interactions with other medicines your taking.  It's safe for people on prescriptions, pregnant women and children, and they're packaged in a convenient carrying case so you can bring them with you everywhere.  They're also washable and reusable up to 7 times and one size fits most!"

My Review
After waiting for 2 days for my doctor to authorize my migraine medicine, this particular migraine got to the point where all I wanted to do was lie in bed with a pillow over my head, in the dark, in complete silence.  I took a few Excedrin Migraines and prayed they would help me out and that I wouldn't throw up.  Then I remembered that Sea-Band had sent me all of these super helpful products for just an occasion such as this one!  So I grabbed them off my bathroom counter.  Sea-Band generously sent me over a pack of ginger gum & a package of Sea-Band Drug Free nausea bands for kids.  Luckily for me, my wrists are teeny tiny but they fit perfectly, just tight enough to do the job right.  I've never really been a ginger person, something about the taste of ginger actually seems to nauseate me even more at times so the gum wasn't for me but I gave a couple pieces to a friend of mine after she ate a big meal way too quickly and it calmed her stomach in about a half hours time.  I love the fact that it's drug free so you can give these to those that are allergic or sensitive to medications.  I also love the fact that they're latex free as I'm latex sensitive and know a lot of people that are as well.
Pros: Latex Free, Drug Free, Acupressure bands that actually work!  Ginger is also well known for it's anti-nausea properties. Reusable and washable up to 7 times.  Pretty affordable too for as many uses as you get out of it.  Gum comes 24 to a pack.
Cons:  I personally don't like the taste of ginger.

  1. My nausea is usually from migraines. They are genetic and I usually have at least 3/month. My doctor gives me phenergan (a drug for nausea) but if possible, I will often turn to ginger when I can get it down. Seaband might work since it works on accupressure points and I'd like to try this alternative too.
