Homemade Beauty Products for Mom!

Who says you need to spend a ton on expensive beauty/spa  products for Mom this Mother's Day?  There are a ton of great recipes for homemade beauty products that are 100% natural and work just as well sometimes better than the store bought products I've tried!  Here are a few of my favorites:

SharAmbrosia Honey Almond Scrub

This is a wonderful Honey Almond scrub with a Peppermint twist!  This product will exfoliate your skin making it smooth and soft.

What you'll need:
4 tablespoons Almond meal (or Almond flour)
2 tablespoons Jojoba oil
4 tablespoons Honey
5 drops of Peppermint essential oil

Pour the Almond meal and jojoba oil into a 4 oz. colbalt or amber glass jar (preferably) and stir well.  Then mix in honey and peppermint essential oil.  Keep stirring until mixture is completely mixed.

To use: Cleanse skin first.  Apply approximately a teaspoon amount of the scrub to a moistened face.  Mix with water to make it a more fluid application but do not add water to the jar.  Scrub your skin gently, letting the almond meal do all the work.  (Hint: Harder pushing will only damage capillaries!)  Massage every square inch of your skin except the delicate eye tissue.  Remove with a warm washcloth and be careful to remove every bit of scrub.  Apply a tonic or hydrosol with a cotton ball to remove any excess product.  Finish by applying your moisturizer.  Use about once a week to keep your skin soft and smooth and relieve surface tension.

Rose Oil and Honey Facial Mask - (thanks to www.honey.com for the recipe!)
Facial Masks are a great way to relax and they're also great for your skin.  Sweet almond oil, light and absorbent, softens and nourishes your skin.  Honey is a wonderful moisturizer for your skin as well as a natural humectant.  After a long, tiring day a facial mask is just what your skin needs to rejuvenate!

What you'll need:
2 tablespoons of Honey
2 tablespoons of sweet almond oil
5 drops of essential oil of rose
1 drop of Vitamin E oil

Mix honey, essential oil of rose and sweet almond oil.

To use: Massage onto clean face and neck with fingertips.  Relax for 15 minutes then rinse off with warm water.  Gently pat dry to revel a soft and fresh complexion each time.

Basic Lip Balm Recipe (thanks to www.spaindex.com for the recipe)
This basic lip balm is made with beeswax and essential oils that will make your lips silky smooth.

What you'll need:
1/2 ounce of beeswax beads
4 ounces sweet almond oil
1 teaspoon colored jojoba beads
2 teaspoons essential oils

Put 4 ounces of the sweet almond oil in a glass measuring cup, add beeswax beads and jojoba beads and melt in the microwave.  Stir with a spoon.  Let it cool for a few minutes and then add essential oils.  Then pour into lip balm jars.

To use: Simply take some of the lip balm from the jars and apply to lips for naturally super soft lips anytime!

Fresh Cranberry Lip Balm (thanks to www.spaindex.com for the recipe)
This homemade recipe for lip balm is made with fresh cranberries!  It will leave your lips soft and smooth and even give them a pretty tint!

What you'll need:
10 fresh cranberries
1 tablespoon sweet almond oil
1 teaspoon honey
1 drop of Vitamin E oil

Mix all ingredients together in a microwave safe bowl.  Microwave for a couple of minutes or until mixture just begins to boil. (Bowl may also be heated in a pan of water on a stove top.)
Stir well and gently crush up the berries.  Cool mixture for five (5) minutes and then strain through a fine sieve to remove all fruit pieces.  Stir again and then set aside to cool completely.  When cool transfer to a small portable plastic container or tin.

Sore Feet Foot Soak (thanks to www.anbportal.com for the recipe)
After a long day of being on your feet you want nothing more than to come home and relax.  What better way than to sit back and let your feet sit in a nice hot foot soak?

What you'll need:
1 tablespoon olive oil
1 teaspoon of Aloe Vera
1 teaspoon of Wheat Germ Oil
20 drops of Peppermint Essential Oil
20 drops of Eucalyptus Essential Oil

Simply mix the ingredients together and soak your feet.  It's easy and quick which is just what you're looking for after a long, stressful day.

Cucumber - Honey Toner (thanks to www.honey.com for the recipe)
Toners are an important part of cleaning and a cucumber honey toner is one of the best ones I've tried so I had to share this one with you.
What you'll need:
1 medium Cucumber
2 teaspoons honey

Puree the cucumber in a blender.  Line a sieve with cheesecloth and set the sieve over a measuring cup or glass.  Pour the cucumber puree into through the sieve and let it stand for 15 minutes to allow all of the juices to drip down into the bowl.  Pour the clear juice into a clean bottle and add honey.

To use:  Shake bottle and saturate a cotton ball or pad with the toner.  Sweep over face, neck and chest morning and night and let it air dry. (about 3-4 minutes)  Store covered in the fridge for up to 1 week.  Makes up to 1/2 cup.

Beer Hair Rinse (thanks to spaindex.com for the recipe.)

As crazy as it sounds beer is actually great for your hair!  It gives your hair a wonderful shine as well as volume!

What you'll need:

2 teaspoons apple cider vinegar
7 drops lemon essential oil
1 ounce of beer (stale is just fine)
5 drops of rosemary essential oil (do not use if pregnant)
5 drops calendula essential oil (optional but recommended for blondes)

Mix all ingredients together and use as a final rinse.  Rinse well.

You still have tonight and tomorrow to whip up some natural spa treatments for Mom and with recipes this easy to follow you really don't have any excuses! Have a fabulous Mother's Day weekend!
